Taung were the original Mandalorians and should not be confused with the Mandalorians who were not Taung but, instead, Mandalorians. Neither should the Mandalorians be confused with the Taung who were not Taung but, instead, Mandalorians.
Taung were mighty, super-kick-ass warriors, but they had one innate weakness. They didn't breed very much. They could conquer the entire galaxy, enslave or destroy entire races, but every generation there were a few hundred thousand less of them. I mean, really, can you imagine a pair of Taungs having sex? Ha! Pair of Taungs. Get it? Because the... eh. Well, anyway, the Taung passed on their warrior legacy to a bunch of gun-toting survivalist humans.
