Pazaak was a metaphor for life, man! During the Old Republic, that is, until sabacc came around. Then it became a metaphor for outdatedness...except when Darth Revan or the Jedi Exile played it in order to put together enough scratch to buy a hooker, a round of death sticks, or a new blaster or lightsaber upgrade. Then, it was "game mechanics".
