Nuclear missiles were weapons that were entirely feeble in the Star Wars universe. Sure, they could blow a chunk out of planet, but none of that mattered when you could just blow the whole thing up.

In other words, nuclear missiles were just lumps of metal and elements that were entirely useless compared to a ball of metal that could shoot cool green lasers.
