The Imperial Remnant was all that remained of the Galactic Empire after the Rebel Alliance and then the New Republic were finished PWNing it. Restricted to eight sectors and two hundred star systems by the end of the Galactic Civil War, it was but a façade of its former glory. Despite this, there were still plenty of holdouts left, eager to see the Empire rise again.
About a hundred years later, they got their wish, backed up by Darth Krayt and his Sith minions.
