Galactic House of Lords

The Galactic House of Lords was the lesser known Upper House of the Galactic Senate. Consisting mainly of Kings, Queens, Dukes, Duchesses, Counts, Countesses, and other sundry title bearers it had...certain powers...I guess....

Anyway, after the advent of space travel, with big ass spaceships with big ass guns that could so totally PWN entire planets, the need for these little intraplanetary overlords declined. To save their political careers, many such aristocrats chose to abdicate their titles and shift their focus to the Lower House of the Galactic Senate, where all the action was. This probably saved their families, by eliminating their need to inbreed.

Indeed, by the time of Palpy's Empire there were only three members of the Upper House, only one of whom even showed up for every meeting. And he showed up for the sandwiches.

Still appearances had to be maintained. The Upper House was staffed by 2 million service droids and a quarter of a million butlers, maids, valets and the like. They covered everytask from bootpolishing, to saber sheathing, to ass kissing. And they made the best sandwiches in the known Galaxy, jolly what!

The Upper House was retained mainly for ceremonial, sentimental reasons. So after the death of the last member of the Upper House a motion was called for its abolition. However, it was decided to keep they House anyway, because there was no other way to employ its 2.25 million staff members elsewhere, and besides, those sandwiches were simply krifftastic!
