The Force lightning rod was an ingenious device invented on Dromund Kaas by an unknown citizen who got tired of always having his house destroyed by Force lightning when the various Sith Lords fought each other or rained destruction down on the city. The inventor was eventually killed by a Force choke, which his lightning rod could not defend against.
The rod construction was simple. It was a metal bar infused with midi-chlorians, attached to a metal cable leading to the ground. Simply placing a Force lightning rod on a rooftop prevented its inhabitants from being harmed by Force lightning. The Sith hated these things because they made them look like complete idiots.
