The Emotroopers were influenced by Darth Emo, a clone of Darth Elmo created by the Jedi, who became emo and killed himself. They were created by Palpatine and, like their namesake, soon killed themselves. Palpatine then created first the Gothtroopers, then later the stormtroopers, finally getting it right on his third try.
