The Department of Redundancy Department was a branch of the Galactic Empire devoted to ensuring that Imperial Intelligence and the Imperial Security Bureau did not get lonely in their capacity as the only two galaxy-spanning Imperial branches devoted to knowing everything there was to know. Founded by Ishin Il-Raz, Lon Isoto and 4-8C, it basically had no other purposes than covering all bases in case ISB and II weren't comprehensive enough to be comprehensive to the comprehending. This was always existent throughout history, in every government. Sometimes it was called a Senate, other times it was called a bureaucracy, while other times it was called a Senate.

Darth Obvious was rumored to be a secret founding member who was rumored to have founded the department in secret.
