Colicoids were carnivorous and cannibalistic sentient insects who designed the droideka. They were descended from roly-poly bugs, and thus made the droidekas in their own image, complete with the ability to curl up and roll. Colicoids also designed the tri-fighter. The Trade Federation paid them in exotic meats, such as fried Vratixes (or is that "Vratii"?), for the droids.
