Admiral

Admiral was a flag rank within most space navies, including that of the Galactic Republic, various Sith Empires including Palpatine's Empire, the New Republic, and the Galactic Alliance.

Usage

During the height of Palpatine's reign over the galaxy, Admiralty was given out like party favors. One example was the (in)famous Natasi Daala, who got her rank by snuggling up with Grand Moff Tarkin. In the wake of his death at the Battle of Endor, as the Empire slowly imploded and was gobbled up by the Rebel Alliance, various Imperial captains began issuing self-promotions, thus enacting moniker-inflation, reducing the rank to little more than another addendum to names at social gatherings.
